resolution run 5k and the hunger games.

In my mind, the first Centex Race Series race of 2014 was scheduled for February 22nd.  The email I received said that, and the site said that when I checked a week ago.  So imagine my surprise when a friend texted me on Friday afternoon and told me they changed it, and it would now be Saturday morning!  What?!

I had already signed up for my gym's Hunger Games event that started at 10 Saturday morning, and of course this race had a later-than-usual start at 9:00.  Ugh.  Not to mention the fact that the race was 30 minutes away!  Gahhh!  Just my luck.  I contacted the person in charge of my gym's event and explained the situation.  She said it would be fine if I was a little late, and I was so glad she was willing to work with me!

I went and ran the race, and unfortunately I have no pictures to share.  I only recently started running again after almost a month break, and this wasn't an easy course by any means.  I ended up finishing in 33:23, which I was perfectly ok with.  I finished strong, passing several people at the end, which made me proud.  I had an absolute sneezing fit once it was done, because all the allergens in the air hit me hard.  Hopefully conditions clear up soon, and I will only get faster!

Once the race was over, I rushed to my gym's event as fast as I could.  Luckily there were no cops out along the 30 minute drive, so I made it right on time.  :)  The event was a lot of fun, and it was definitely challenging.  It didn't work to my advantage that we were in a field of grass and weeds.  Some areas had long grass, and my allergies continued to go crazy.  My team was laughing at me, because I was having sneezing fits all throughout the competition.  Other than the allergy issues, the hardest part for me was the relay in which you had to do 13 burpees, then bear crawl to the next cone - and repeat that three times.  My last set of burpees were probably the ugliest burpees ever completed!

I didn't have the chance to take any pictures, but I was able to borrow one from my gym's site of our blue team.

After the 2 hour gym event was done, I was TIRED.  Going straight from a race to the event wasn't easy.  I'm glad I did it, but I was definitely so, so tired by the end.  I had all kinds of things I wanted to accomplish on Saturday, but I ended up doing nothing.  I couldn't bring myself to leave the couch.

Here's to a fitness-filled next week!  Monday begins my gym's Biggest Loser competition, and I decided to enter this time.  I'm hoping it provides the motivation I need to really make changes and get healthier.
