Yesterday was my 18th race of 2013! As of now, I'll complete 29 by the time 2013 ends. It could be more if find some that I don't know about along the way!
I'm pretty sure it's an addiction, and it starts to add up financially, but there are worse things to be addicted to and spend my money on, right?!
As usual, I didn't want to get up and out of bed, but I knew I'd be glad I did. I was up too late working on back-to-school stuff, and I hadn't run all week. I wasn't sure how I'd do, but I was hoping my lack of running wouldn't hurt me too badly.
The boyfriend didn't make it to the race, but luckily they had a photographer and posted a few pictures on their website.
And we're off!
In the picture above, you can see me grabbing at my iPod that's under my shirt. The race started with me having iPod issues! Ugh! I tried to start it over and over, but it wouldn't work. I was so mad. I took it out of the case and figured out a button on top had slid over. Once I slid it back over, it worked. I put it back in the case but felt it hanging 5 seconds later. It had fallen out of the dang case! Once I secured it in there, it was fine, but that was a really frustrating start. It took me a minute to calm down and get my breathing on track.
The course wasn't too bad. I enjoy courses that have lots of turns, because I can tell myself, "I only have to make it to that corner!" rather than seeing a long stretch ahead. I like that turns break up the run into smaller pieces. The only downfall to this course was the long, steady incline as we entered a neighborhood. That was tough, but once it was over, the rest wasn't too bad.
Apparently I was pulling my shoulder back as I was approaching the finish. Not good form! I noticed it right away in this picture and the next one.
See my shoulder thrown back in the picture below? At least I'm not heel striking or hunching over like usual. I guess I'm trading those two bad habits for this one! Haha.
I'm so self conscious of the veins in my legs, and I hate that I can see them in the picture! They're especially bad in my left leg. I need a tan so they won't be so obvious! As they say, we are our own worst enemy. I also hate that my thigh looks like a blob. I was hoping to see more muscle definition!
I FINALLY have an actual 5k time to share!!! The last several have measured short, and this one actually measured a little long.
I forgot to stop my watch when I crossed the finish, but my watch saved the day! With the Garmin 10, it will save your best times, and luckily I had two new records since owning the watch in this race!
My goal has been to compete against myself and get a little better with each race. Earlier this year I ran a 5k with an overall pace of 11:54. I was far, far removed from my 9:18 overall pace days! That's what I get for being a sloth for months. I've started to see real improvement lately, with my last couple of races ending with an overall pace in the low 10:20s. Today's 5k time put me at an overall pace of 10:08!!!! I am very excited about that! I'm so close to a sub 10 pace that I can taste it. First comes sub 10 overall pace, then comes sub 30 5k! Slowly but surely, I'm on my way back!
Do you have any specific run goals right now?
